Catherine Vaughn

Catherine Vaughn

President

Catherine Vaughn is the proud owner of Hill Motley Lumber, the only local, family-owned lumber company in the area. She purchased the business from her father, Bill Mason, continuing a legacy that began in 1945. For Catherine, leading Hill Motley is both a professional calling and a personal honor — a chance to carry forward a business that has been part of Bowling Green’s story for eight decades. After building a career outside of Bowling Green, Catherine returned home to get involved in the family business. Her leadership blends respect for Hill Motley’s history with a forward-thinking vision for growth. She’s committed to maintaining the company’s reputation for exceptional customer service, strong relationships, and deep community ties, while ensuring Hill Motley continues to adapt to the needs of builders, contractors, and homeowners. Catherine takes great pride in the Hill Motley team, many of whom have been with the company for decades. She believes their loyalty, hard work, and dedication to customers are key to the company’s success. Under her leadership, Hill Motley remains focused on delivering quality products, personalized service, and the kind of trusted partnerships that can only come from being deeply rooted in the community you serve. Catherine says her favorite part of her job is, “Continuing the legacy my family built while keeping Hill Motley a trusted, local resource for the next generation of builders and homeowners.”

Charlie Payne has been part of the Hill Motley team for three years and is now entering his fourth year in Outside Sales. Before joining Hill Motley, he served as Construction Superintendent for Servpro, overseeing operations across three franchises. A Bowling Green, KY native, Charlie and his wife Jennifer — high school sweethearts who have known each other since sixth grade — have been married for 10 years. They share two children, James Patrick (5) and Lily (2). Much of Charlie’s free time is spent enjoying activities with his kids, cooking, being on or in the water, and cheering on University of Kentucky basketball. He also serves on the Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation Board and is passionate about supporting the South Central Kentucky community. Charlie values Hill Motley’s close-knit, hardworking environment where “we all work really hard and have fun doing it.” He enjoys helping homeowners and builders coordinate material needs and overseeing the logistics of getting materials from the yard to the job site — a process that requires careful planning and organization. For Charlie, customer service is more than a phrase — it’s “a mindset backed by action.” He believes in building strong relationships with customers and delivering the best possible outcomes through dedication and heart. Guided by the principle from Luke 12:48, “To whom much is given, much is expected,” Charlie approaches his work and life with a sense of responsibility and purpose.

PICTURE OF FLAME --ADD TO TEAM PAGE.jpg

Flame

African Grey Parrot & Hill Motley Mascot

Flame has been part of the Hill Motley family for over 10 years, greeting customers and keeping our showroom lively. An African Grey Parrot, Flame was originally adopted from Haven Parrot Rescue in Lexington, GA, in the summer of 2010. His original family named him Flame after his striking red tail, and today he’s a certified member of our team. Known for his sharp wit and clear voice, Flame loves to say his own name and even answers the phone in Catherine’s voice, which always makes our staff smile. If you see him with his feathers poofy and quivering, that’s his way of letting you know he’s happy to see you. African Greys are highly social, intelligent birds — often compared to a 5–6 year old child in their curiosity and vocabulary. Flame fits right in at Hill Motley, where the balance of activity in the showroom and downtime in the evenings provides the perfect atmosphere. His favorite snack? Blueberries — which he carefully peels before eating! Flame isn’t just our mascot — he’s a reminder that Hill Motley is a place full of character, history, and family.
